Introduction
The largest subfamily of Scirtidae, comprising all but two described genera of the family.Characteristics
The most important characters of Scirtinae are:- outer edges of tibiae with paired, longitudinal carinae (only in Amplectopus with a single carina, in Nipponocyphonidae and Stenocyphoninae carinae are absent);
- frontoclypeal suture absent or subtly marked;
- lacinia without apical hook in vast majority of genera;
- metatibiae often with well developed apical spurs.
