Marattia alata

Marattia alata Sw. is the type species of the genus Marattia. It is described from Jamaica, where it is relatively common in the high elevation cloud forests of the Blue Mountains. It is most closely related to the Central American M. weinmanniifolia and the Hawaiian M. douglasii. The species can be recognized by its finely divided 3 to 4 times pinnae triangular or pentangular fronds and stout erect rhizomes, growing up to 50 cm tall and about the same in width.
