Introduction
This monogeneric subfamily was erected by Hansen (1997) for a single species known from one specimen from the island of New Guinea. Recently, a second species of this bizzare hydrophilid was described from the gravel margins of coastal rivers along the coast of the Ryuku Islands in southern Japan (Satô & Yoshitomi, 2004)
