Eupodium
Maarten ChristenhuszThis tree diagram shows the relationships between several groups of organisms.
The root of the current tree connects the organisms featured in this tree to their containing group and the rest of the Tree of Life. The basal branching point in the tree represents the ancestor of the other groups in the tree. This ancestor diversified over time into several descendent subgroups, which are represented as internal nodes and terminal taxa to the right.

close boxIntroduction
The genus Eupodium was recently segregated from Marattia by Murdock (2008), and it consists of three species, differing in the presence or absence of awns and tubercles (Christenhusz, in review). They are widely distributed in mountainous areas of the Neotropics. Typically the plants bear only a single, large leaf on the globular rhizome.
Characteristics
Eupodium is distinguished from Marattia by having stalked synangia and the usual presence of awns on the midribs of the pinnules. Eupodium has finely dissected pentagonal leaves and globular rhizomes with the stipules closely appressed to the petioles.
